Comparison of Unicast and Multicast transmission approach
Unicast is a one-to-one system, that is, a single sender to single receiver data transmission system. In the event of transmitting identical data to multi-users, sender had no other choice but transmitting it to each of receivers, one by one, which obviously resulted in low efficiency of network due to overlapped transmission.

Multicast is to simultaneously deliver the same data to multiple receivers belonging to different groups. As it functions to simultaneously forward the data to many different destinations it avoids overlap in sending a data, hence, achieving a cost-effective and high standard quality goals as well.

Unicast Multicast
Advantage

Services will be provided to the users at any time and place thanks to the benefit VOD has offered.

Services will be provided to multi-users without being limited on network and bandwidth, using one-to-multiple transmission approach
Disadvantage One-to-one transmission that repeats to transmit same data to multi-users will inevitably bring about low efficiency of network Support directly Livecast only

Why incompatible with existing network?

Multicast services are transmitted to the users via 5-7 routers, but it will not properly function if even a single router doesnĄ¯t support Multicast. Since many routers or sub-systems used for major network of ISP are still incompatible with Multicast, Unicast has been adopted instead of Multicast.

How to introduce Multicast network system?
Fundamentally, replacing all routers with those compatible with Multicast will be the only solution, but it will be too costly, which will unlikely to be a viable approach.
CastBox offers cost-effective measures that will make existing network compatible with Multicast. CastBox is an only solution
